Yes. Cleveland Psychological Services will accept new clients for evaluation and assessment with other plans; however, the fee of $135.00 per hour must be paid at the time of service. We will bill your insurance carrier as a courtesy to you, but most companies do not offer out-of-network coverage.
There are no specific "tests" that must be given to make a diagnosis of ADHD or ADD. The clinician typically meets with the parent/guardian of the child and talks with them at length about the child's difficulties and his/her personal, academic, and medical history. In addition, behavior questionnaires are completed by the child's parent and teacher(s) that help to provide additional information. Finally, the clinician meets with the child and talks with him/her about the difficulties. Not all evaluations for ADHD/ADD require psycho-educational testing, and the IQ and achievement tests can be completed through the child's school at no cost to you if an appropriate referral is made to the school's Student Support Team. Ms. Kauff will be able to determine whether your child should have additional psycho-educational testing after the initial appointment and the parent may choose whether to proceed at Cleveland Psychological Services or through the school or another provider.
The cost of an evaluation depends on the tests that are necessary to answer the referral question. An evaluation consisting of an IQ test, achievement test, visual-motor integration screening measure, and behavioral forms from the parent and the teacher(s) typically cost $1,350.00. This includes the initial meeting with parents, test administration time, scoring and interpreting test results, completion of the evaluation report, and a feedback session with the parent to discuss the results and address any questions they may have.
*** Please note that in many cases, insurance will cover some or most of the testing if it is considered medically necessary for a diagnosis, although some plans may not cover testing. In some cases, you may have a deductible to meet for the year or co-insurance. In these cases, the in-network provider discount (roughly 35% of the bill) will be deducted from your balance and you will be responsible for the remaining balance.***
There are several factors that Johnston County Schools review when considering a child for early admission to Kindergarten. One component of this process is an evaluation conducted by a psychologist. This evaluation consists of two parts. The first part is aptitude testing (or IQ testing). The child MUST score at or above the 98th percentile on the aptitude test. Please be aware that this is very difficult to do. If the child does not score at or above the 98th percentile, then no further tests need to be administered. If the child scores at or above the 98th percentile on the aptitude test, then they may also be administered the Test of Early Reading III and/or the Test of Early Math III. The child must score at or above the 98th percentile on ONE (not both) of these tests to move forward in the process of consideration for Kindergarten admission. The cost of the aptitude testing is $270.00 and is due at the time of the appointment for testing. This includes the time spent during the evaluation and a written report. The cost is an additional $270.00 for the achievement testing and is also due at the time of the test administration. This also includes the testing time and completion of a written report.
*Insurance does not cover any portion of early Kindergarten evaluations, as they are not considered medically necessary.
Currently, Ms. Kauff is taking new appointments for testing and evaluations only. She is not taking new clients for therapy or counseling. Ms. Kauff will be happy to refer you to a qualified professional in your area who offers therapy/counseling services and a flexible schedule.
Yes. There are a few exceptions to the rules of confidentiality, and these will be discussed with you thoroughly at your first appointment. You will also be provided with a written statement of confidentiality and HIPAA guidelines at your first visit.
